How are Impact Craters on Earth Confirmed?

MetSoc Impact Cratering Committee Website

Research published in peer reviewed journals has mainly been the default process to establish meteor/asteroid impact sites on earth. Yet specific criteria and the evidence required has not been based on professional consensus, therefore it poses challenges to further research and affects the data.

Since 2019 the Impact Cratering Committee have developed defining criteria, and are launching in 2023 an approved database of confirmed sites.
