Gosses Bluff Impact Crater was formed by a Comet

What a hit- Australia was hit by a comet originating from the Kuiper belt, and the world felt earthquakes caused by the impact 142.5 million years ago. The current 5 kilometer wide impact formation was actually originally much larger before the mantle uplift and erosion over the years. This crater is a sacred place known as Tnorla by the Western Arrernte Aboriginal peoples, who also believe in its cosmic origin.

This latest Geology Hub video gives the fascinating history, including what lives were affected at the time.
