International Space Station Photo of Meteor Crater

view from space of area around meteor crater

NASA image ISS070-E-52029, taken December 27, 2023

This image was taken by astronauts from the Expedition 70 crew who arrived on the International Space Station September 27, 2023, and will return later this Spring. Two of this crew, Jasmin Moghbeli and Loral O’Hara, both trained at Meteor Crater!

You can see from the surrounding volcanic areas why originally the crater was thought to have been formed by a volcano!
